About Katlin
Expertise
I can answer all kinds of questions that are about tumbeling, stunting, flying, cheering, dancing, flexabilty, motions, and just getting back in shape. I can't answer questions about the drill team. I was on an all-star team for 7 years and am currently on my high school team which I have been on for 3 years, and I am currently captain of my high school squad. On my all-star team I was a flyer, a base, and a tumbler. I would be glad to help you, so you may give me some of your questions and I would be glad to give you as much information as I can.

Experience
I have cheered for 7 years for an all star team. We traveled out of state. I was a flyer but I know how to base and backspot.

Organizations
I am on an all-star team and high school team.

Cheerleading - mental block?

Question
My daughter is 8 years old and has been in all star cheerleading for 4 years.  She was doing her back tuck (standing and running) until 2 weeks ago. Now she can't even do a back handspring. Her confidence is shattered and I am not sure why. She had been teased by a few older girls on her team earlier in the season but that has ended. She is not the strongest tumbler on the team but is very dedicated and working to improve her skills. She is very strong in dance and flying.  She was actually just awarded Cheerleader of the Year from her coaches out of a team of 45 girls.  I was hoping that was enough to boost her confidence to start tumbling again but no luck. Try outs are in a week and she can only do a cartwheel. What can I do to help her get back her confidence?  I feel so badly for her. She wants to do these things but it is almost as if her mind and body won't connect.

Answer
Hii Stephanie,
This is very common especially for young girls .. i have had many of these in my time and still have them to this day .. what helped me and might help you daughter is taking a deep breath, closing her eyes then open them and as she is doing her pass have her say to herself what she is doing .. i still have to do this after being in all-star cheer for very long .. this has always helped me and still does .. if she doesn't do it with / without a spot have her coaches throw her over and make her do conditioning for each time she doesn't throw it .. this is harsh but works ... i know from experience lol .. good luck!!!!
LET ME KNOW HOW SHE DOES!! OR IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS!!  GOOD LUCK!!
Sincerly,
  Katlin <3
