Chemical Engineering/Tunnuls in the future

Question
(This is an interview, not a homework questoin)

How do you think tunnels will change in the future?

Answer
I'm not sure you'll see much in the way of technological advancement with respect to tunnels, because they're simply holes in the ground connecting point A to point B.  I'd say there will most likely be an increase in tunnel building as urban areas try to clean up and reduce street level traffic, like what they're trying to do with the Big Dig in Boston.  If you're looking for more technical answers you might want to ask a Civil Engineer.
