Question
Hi

Can I know why is there a need to remove minerals from water? I know that ion exchange is a method to remove minerals from water.

Answer
Using your subject line as a guide, one of the big reasons minerals need to be removed in heat transfer operations is to prevent scale from forming on the heat transfer surfaces.  Mineral scale will reduce the effectiveness of any water based heat exchange system, and is tedious to remove from heat exchanger passages.
