Question
Is a dill pickle an acid or a base?

Answer
I am not sure if a dill pickle is an acid or base, but if it is indeed "pickled" then it would be an acid.  Why? Cucumbers are soaked in a type of salt solution for pickling. Table salt and something called Alum are used, after that they are placed in a vinegar solution. This is really 5% acetic acid, which is acidic.

One way to test if your pickle is an acid, is to place a few drops of baking soda on it.  Dissolve up some in a small cup.  If bubbles or fizzing occur then you can be sure it is an acid. If nothing occurs it could possibly be a base.  Of course, don't eat it after doing this.

Hope this helps.
