Question
When boiling chlorinated water, does the chlorine boil off before the water boils?

Answer
From what I have read the boiling point of hypochlorite, which is the source of "chlorine" for water boils at 100C (212F).  So it does not appear to boil off before water. It will start to decompse before that temperature is reached.

If you have access to a pool chemical kit you can test for the presence of chlorine.  I belive it is just a colormetric determination and there is a scale on the container telling you how much chlorine is in the water.

Hope this helps.
