Chemicals/Making Layered Mocktails

Question
Hello, I was wondering how to make mocktials with distinct layers. I know that you can make layers using different juices with different densities, however I was wondering whether you could change the density of water by dissolving a heavy, soluble solid into it, and if this would work, which solid work be most suitable. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer
It would work, but there would be so much you would have to add it would taste terrible.  Think fresh water and salt water.  You could try powdered milk or honey, but whatever you try, it will change the taste, so you have to use something tasty.  Here's a thought, what about jello.  As long as the temperature is room and there is enough water that it will not gel up.  I like that idea.  But again, what will it taste like.
