Question
I am a student im in grade 11, chemistry
my question : is bleach n acid?
I am doing a research on permanent waves where it says that hydrogen peroxide will stop the effects of the reducing agent (an alkaline, ammonia)
i know its for homework but i'd like to have that point clarified because I searched on wikipedia that the pH of bleach is around 13.5 making it a base, yet on google i found that bleach is a weak acid.

Answer
The problem is the word "bleach" which has no specific meaning other than "something that removes color".  There are many types and formulations that can be called bleach.  Most are oxidants such as chlorine or peroxide and in pure form are acidic, but many formulations add base to them for stabiliztion, so they become basic in the formulation.
