Chemicals/hydrated lime vs 50% caustic

Question
 We are looking at switching to 50% caustic for pH adjustment in the digesters of a wastewater treatment plant. I am trying to figgure out how much caustic it takes to equal an amount of lime.

 I know the weigh of caustic is 40 and Ca(OH)2 is 74, but Ca(OH)2 usually has some water with it. I thought is was Ca(OH)2-6(H20), but I am not sure.

Answer
The water is dependent on what you are buying.  Most lime is 90-95% Ca(OH)2.  It is not a hydrate.  You will need to look at the specs you are buying under.

Also, when you make this switch, note that Ca(OH)2 is not totally soluble in water where the caustic is soluble.  Whatever you calculate, the amount of caustic needed may be less, so I recommend that you start with half to 3/4 of calculated value and move the level up until you get the pH you are seeking.
