Chemicals/plastic electric kettles = exposure to chemicals?

Question
Hi Henry.  Thanks for taking my question.  I've searched around, but haven't found much.

I just bought a plastic electric kettle and the water tastes and smells plastic-like.  Am I potentially being exposed to harmful chemicals leaching out from the pot?  These plastic kettles are very popular right now.  Thinking I might exchange for a stainless steel type.

Thanks!

Answer
My suggestion would have been to wash and dry the kettle two or three times before use and boil 10 pots of water before you ever drank any.  If you didn't you may taste some plastic taste.  Some people say they taste metal from a metal kettle.  It is really personal preference, so switch if you have concerns.  Unless something is very wrong, you will not have an exposure to anything that would rise to the level of harmful.  Other plastic items have the same problem.
