Chemistry (including Biochemistry)/Newspapers and windows

Question
I am a high-school senior from Lexington, KY.

Why are newspapers so effective in cleaning windows/mirrors/glasses? and why doesn't the ink on newspapers stain the windows/mirrors/glasses since it stains our fingers?

Thanks.

Answer
I believe that much of this is an Old Wifes Tale.  This started before paper towels, but also one advantage was that unlike "cheap" paper towels, the newspaper doesn't leave lint on the windows.  And the newspaper is really free in cost for this purpose.  Newspaper not absorbing the cleaner, also uses less cleaner.  it is more like a squeegee.  HGTV points out some of the problems.

The new recommendation is to use cheap coffee filters (not natural), since you don't get ink on your hands.
