Question
This is not for homework, just something I always wondered: in chemical solutions, what is the "solution" part, what kind of liquid is it?  Thank you.

Answer
A solution can be made of any liquid with something added to it.  The liquid is called the solvent and the something added (gas, liquid,or solid) is called the solute.  For most labs, solutions refer to water as the solvent, but ethanol, methanol, acetone, gasoline, or any other liquid can be used to make a solution.
