Question
why is it when looking through a micrcroscope at the letter e it is upside down ?

Answer
It depends on the microscope.  That is just the way yours sends and reflects the light to the eyepiece.  Search www.google.com for more on microscope optics such as
http://www.microscopyu.com/articles/optics/opticshome.html

Also, did you know your eye reflects light the same way?  When your eye sees something it is sent to the brain upside down and the brain turns it back over.
