Followup To i also will like to know if the liquid is not water will the boiling point of the liquid be too high or too low
Question -
if the thermometer bulb rest on the bottom of water-filled beaker would it reduce or increase the boiling point.
i asked this question because i read a book and they said the bulb should not rest on the bottom but didnt give the reason so i'm just curious.
Answer -
With a direct flame on the glass, bulb interface, the bulb
may read hotter than the water.

Answer
Depends on the liquid.  If the bp is much lower than the temp of the glass at the direct flame, it will read higher.  If the bp is very high the difference will be less.  I don't see a way the thermometer would read less than the bp.  When the bulb rests on the bottom, you are measuring the temp of the bulb, flame, container interface.
