Question
Hi Dr. Boyter,

I was doing research on acids. I have gone to several search engines and could not find a suffecient amount of information for my topic. I want to know who discovered erythorbic acid (found in mountain dew)and phosphoric acid (found in soft drinks like classic coke and pepsi). I already know that Jabir Ibn Hayan discovered citric as well as tartaric acid. I also know that Joseph Priestly somewhat discovered "carbonated drinks" by examining the air at a brewery he lived close to.
                        Thank you for your time,
                                    Woan Shih

Answer
Henning Brand, the "discoverer" of phosphorus probably would get credit, but phosphorus and phosphoric acid were probably known in ancient times.

I found nothing on the discovery of isoascorbic acid.  The Merck Index lists some early syntheses (1933), but no specifics.
