Chess - checkmate

Expert: Wuyanbu Zutali - 11/11/2008

Question
If your opponent has only his king left, and, besides your king, you have two knights, is there a way to accomplish checkmate?

Answer
Hello,

Yes.

Checkmate is very possible except it takes great skill to do it.
You have to create barriers and cut the king off and force him into a corner and then deliver check mate. It's the most difficult check mate in chess. Strong computers and players can do it. But many players, masters included, willingly agree to a draw to avoid this long drawn out process. Practice helps, but in my over the board tournaments, I hardly ever see this. Keep in mind that not everyone will agree to the draw. Some players will go at it for hours until the tournament clock or a TD (tournament director) stops the game.
