Question
what are the best first five opening moves in a chess game

Answer
If you're referring to the five best opening moves for White in a chess game, they would be in order of popularity and statistical best scores:

1.e4
1.d4
1.c4
1.Nf3
1.g3

However, it's important to remember that any of these opening moves often transpose into another opening from any of the other four, often by design and sometimes by accident.

Here's one example of a 1.d4 opening transposing to a French Defense, which usually occurs from 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 e6:

1.d4 Nf6
2.Nc3 d5
3.Bg5 e6
4.e4
