Question
How many moves does it take for a knight to reach a square that is one square diagonally away from the knight?

Answer
Hi Michael!

Thanks for your interesting question!

The knight is a very strange beast indeed.  It actually takes FOUR moves for a knight to get to a square that is on the same diagonal with one square in between.

I don't know if you know algebraic notation, but if a knight starts on e4, one way for the steed to get to g6 is as follows:

1.  Ng3
2.  Nh5
3.  Nf4
4.  Ng6

Thanks again for your question, and enjoy your chess!

Your new chess friend,

Chuck
