Chess - How to choolse opening based on my style?

Expert: Len Molden - 7/6/2009

Question
I am a newbie, there are a lot of openings out there. How can I determine a particular style? What questions do I need to ask myself and answer to find an appropriate opening based on my responses? Hope this makes sense.. Should I start at ECO A00 and go through a number of games to see which I "think" I like or is there a more efficient way? Thank you!!! :-)

Answer
Hi Luis,

Can you provide me with some more information so that I can give you the best possible answer:

- your age
- your general state of health (believe it or not it's relevant!)
- time per week to spend studying chess
- how often you play each week either at a club or online

Once I get this from you, I'll be able to provide you with a detailed answer.

Regards,

Len Molden
