Question
I was playing the chess game on my computer.I was one move from check mate and I had not previously checked my opponent in this game. The position of the board is as follows:(White to play) white Rook A8,Rook C7 Pawns B6and F4 Knight E2 King E3 Black Bishop B8 King D8 pawns G6 and H5 Before I could make my move that would have been checkmate  the game claimed perpetual check .I think this is some sort of glitch in the software but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything  I would be most grateful for your kind assistance, Sincerely Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff,

Probably what happened was that the position was repeated on the board three times, which is also a draw:

The key point, is that the repeated positions need not occur in succession.
