question: is there such a rule that states its illegal to move a chess piece back in forth several times over a square to avoid from having to make a move with another piece and attempt to delay the game. i was always under the impression that you could move back and forth over a space more than 3 times. please assist.

Hi Kent,

It is not illegal to do this.  However - you need to be aware of the "Threefold Repetition of the Position" rule, as this occurs often (especially in time trouble):
