what can I play if:
1-d4   e6

if I play c4 black can play f5
if e4 black can play d5 ( french) ( which i dont want spend time on it)
thank you

Answer
Hi Behrooz,

This is a good way for Black to enter the Dutch Defense if they also play the French Defense as well.

A few Anti-Dutch ideas I have used are these:

A) 1.d4 e6 2.Nf3 f5 3.e4, a deferred Staunton Gambit. There was an article about it in a past Secrets of Opening Surprises book.

After 3...fe4 4.Ng5 Nf6 5.f3 when Black has a few options (5...c5, 5...e3, 5...ef3, 5...h6). The best line is 5...c5 6.fe4 cd4 7.Bd3 Nc6 8.0-0 Bd6.

B) 1.d4 e6 2.Nf3 f5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7 5.Bxf6 Bxf6 6.e4.

C) 1.d4 e6 2.Nf3 f5 3.e3 Nf6 4.Bd3 and White gets a Colle-Rubinstein Attack.

These lines are not as dangerous as the 2.g3 main lines, but still pose some problems for Black.
