Question
can a king move to a protected spot to be next to the opponents king to chase that king away?

Answer
Hi, Mike.  Thank you for your question.

A king can never put itself in check.  If you played your king next to your opponent's king, then he could capture your king on his next move.  So, no, you cannot move your king right next to your opponent's king.

I hope that I answered your question.  Enjoy your chess!
