Question
I've noticed that there's two different ways to setup your king. Either the kings are parallel or opposite of each other, could you please tell me which way is the proper or correct way to set them up?

Answer
Dont get confused my dear friend, i'll tell u a very simple way how to remember the positions.
Dont look at the king, instead look at the queen. The white queen must be placed in white square and the black queen must be placed in black square. The kings are placed at the adjacent squares respectively.
The white pieces are placed in rows 1 and 2, while black pieces are placed in 7 and 8 rows. therefore the position of white king is always e1 and the positon of black king is always e8.
