Question
How to defeat the opponent if I have one knight and he has nothing.

Answer
If all you have is a knight and a king (no other pawns or pieces), then the game is a draw.

One of the great injustices in chess is that even if you have two knights and a king against a lone king, you still can't force checkmate!

In general, if you are ahead a rook or equivalent force(e.g. Bishop & two pawns), then you can win by force.
