Question
I have a 1984 Toyota FJ60, with a 1991 Chevy 5.7l TBI (from a Caprice)and a manual transmission, that I purchased from my brother. A few months ago, I noticed that the engine would sputter and misfire under load at low RPMs when the engine is cold.  The problem would correct itself as the engine warmed or at higher RPMs.  However, I have noticed that it is now taking longer and longer for the misfire to go away.  Now the engine is at normal operating temperature when the sputter finally goes away.

The engine has approximately 60,000 miles on it and their were no problems when it was initially installed in the FJ60.

I have done some searches on the internet and found that this is a common problem.  Most of the suggested remedies are to replace the EGR valve.

Are their other options that I should consider?

Answer
doug;hi-well I would check al the plugs than do a compression test on the cylinders. than hook up a OBDII meter to see is any codes pop up. it could be a fuel filter.or the spark plugs, or the cap, dist. wires or plugs. I would do a lot of checking prior to thinking of a new motor.
