Chevrolet/1996 Cavalier Starting problem

Question
I have a 1996 cavalier 2.2 that has a starting problem. The starter engages... spins... starts the engine... and continues to stay engaged.. wow does it make noise!!  The engine continues to run with the starter engaged even after turning off the ignition and removing the key... The only way i have been able to stop the starter is to "restart" and "turn off"  the car several times till the it finally stops being engaged...  This has only happened to a hot engine so far....     Thanks

Answer
Hi Bruce, There are two things that would cause this problem. Its most likely that the solinoid is sticking on the starter, because it only happens when it hot, replacing the starter will fix that. The other thing is there may be power continuing to go to the starter after the the key is released, this could be a ignition switch problem. I hope this helps you if you need more info just let me know. Regards, Keith.
