About Jim Holsbeck Expertise I can answer most questions on Chevrolet vehicles up to 1996, or before the ODBII.
Experience I have been working on cars since I was eight, when I started handing my dad wrenches. I did my first complete rebuild at 14, and my first restoration at 16. When it comes to Chevy, if I don't know the answer off the top of my head, I can find it out fairly quickly. (My entire family is a bunch of gear heads.)
Education/Credentials 4 year machinist degree, with a 2 year mechanical drafting.
Question I just replaced the combination switch in a 1996 Geo Metro LSI. After re-
installing the steering wheel and following the air bag reinstall directions I
cannot get the light to clear. If I disconnect the bag while the car is running, it
goes off, but shut the car off and reconnect bag it comes on again. I
disconnected the battery for 15min. still no reset. Does this on board computer
need to be flashed by a handheld to reset?
Answer Scott,
It will have to have the code cleared with a handheld ODBII scanner in order for the light to stay out. Most major chain parts stores will do it for free or a small charge if you ask them to pull the codes. When the codes come up, have them erase them and you should be done with it. Good Luck!
