Can a 1998 Z22 (the 2.2L) handle power from a turbo or nitrous kit?  If not, what other ways can I boost horsepower in my car without actually going out and buying a crate engine?

Maybe a turbo but probably not nitrous. Not really sure. I'm not into the whole fast and furious thing. Your motor was designed to be as fuel efficiant as possible, not fast.
You could check with a local performance shop and see if they can give you any tips.
