About Jim Holsbeck Expertise I can answer most questions on Chevrolet vehicles up to 1996, or before the ODBII.
Experience I have been working on cars since I was eight, when I started handing my dad wrenches. I did my first complete rebuild at 14, and my first restoration at 16. When it comes to Chevy, if I don't know the answer off the top of my head, I can find it out fairly quickly. (My entire family is a bunch of gear heads.)

Chevrolet - Chevy Cavalier Z24 brights don't work?
Expert: Jim Holsbeck - 9/19/2007
Question Ok, I replaced both bright lamps on my 1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 but neither lamp works when I click the switch on the turn signal. Also, the bright indicator does not come on the dashboard. I hardly ever use my brights and recently when turning them on, I was left with complete darkness on the road. Any ideas why the brights (only the brights) don't work?
Answer Paul,
Your car runs two seperate systems for the brights and dims, so I would suspect a fuse or relay. Look at the fusebox diagram on the fuse door and check your high beam fuse. If that's good, you'll have to locate the relay and check it as well. If it is not right with the fuses it will be in a box under the hood, generally on the driver's side up on the inner fender near the firewall. If they are still good, let me know and I'll try to get into it a little more, but I would just about bet that one or the other is the problem. Good Luck!
