Question I have a 1990 Chevy Celebrity with 113,000 miles and the 3.0 motor. When I bought the car a year ago, I had the following replaced: radiator, temp sending switch and thermostat due to the car runninh hot. (Or at least I thought so) The car has a/c and it seems that the car "warms up" too fast, even in the winter. It has a gauge and it usually gets right up to the middle position (220 degrees) within a short time after startup. I noticed that in the summer it will pass this mark and head toward the red line when idling. One time in traffic it just about reached the red line before it came down and stayed right on the middle line (220) The car has never overheated but I am always cautios with gauges and was wondering if I should be concerned. What is the normal operating temperature of this car? Thanks for your help.
Answer Dennis;
I would have a OBDII meter put on it to see if any codes pop up- also I would put a radiator pressure gauge on it to see if it holds water, and how is the rad. cap and all of the hoses, does the fan slip. and it you want to re-move the thermostat for the summer time that ok to do.it will hurt nothing at all in the summer time-it will only run a lot cooler ok >>
