Question

-------------------------
Hi Roger
I guess I didn't ask the question right. The bolt is perhaps 3 inchs long. The bushing is about 2 inchs long. When I took it apart the bolt ran thru the filter, then thru the bushing, then screwed into the trans body. That left about 1/2 inch of play between the head of the bolt and the bushing. It is in this 1/2 inch that the filter sets. The filter can move up and down that 1/2 inch. Of course then the plastic filter neck attaches to the filter in the grommet and the other end with the O ring goes into the trans body. It just seems to me that the bolt should be shorter and the filter set up against the bushing. I had the trans rebuilt about 5 years ago and its been theis way every since.. The whole reason for this question was I changed the fluid about 2 weeks ago. I replaced the fluid with Mobil 1 synethic atf. While on vacation I noticed that the trans would make a whirling sound for the first 15-30 seconds when first starting it in the morn or after it sat for a while. I thought it might be the O ring seal at the top of the filter neck. I replaced it, but was wondering if the right bolt was in the filter. If the filter was pulled up to the bushing it would set closer to level. The bolt that is in the trans is in good condition and was screwed all the way in.
Thanks Brad

Question -
Is the filter on a turbo 400 supposed to be loose on the bolt? The filter is attached to the trans by a single bolt that will not screw up tight against the filter. There is a bushing between the filter and the trans body.

Answer -
Brad ;
Hi  - no it should be snug not  real  tight but  snug  can you  look to see if the bolt is striped , or replace the bolt and get a fatter washer so it will be  tight  ok.>>>
it should not  spin or be loose at all >>>>>>><<><?><

Answer
Brad;
HI - it sounds as if the way it is set up is with a pick up tube ,and the filter is low into the fluid , I do not think it should be that loose but if it has been that way for 5 years , if it is not broken do not fix it. I can only think that it should be snug . can you put a washer in place to snug it up. but if it has been low and sitting in the fluid with a tube than that is how they made it to be.  ok
