Chevrolet/car won't start

Question
I have a 98 cavalier that the engine has been running hot lately.  But the other night we turned the car off to let it cool down, and now it won't start.  When you go to start it it sounds like its going to start but it doesn't.  It's getting gas, there is a spark, and there is no coolant in the oil. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Answer
Hi lizz, it sounds like you have a head gasket gone. there dosent have have to be coolant in the oil to have a head gasket gone, its probably what caused it to run hot in the first place. I hope this helped you if you need more help just let me know. Regards, Keith.
