Question
QUESTION: I keep hearing a grinding noise just about every time I turn right only.  The noise gets louder the longer I drive. I pulled the tire off and couldn't find any loose parts or rubbing. The grinding noise only happens during a certain part of the tire rotation.  I couldn't see a rock or anything that might have been stuck between the brake pads.  I hope you can help.  thanx

ANSWER: Hi Doug....check the wheel bearings... sounds like you have bearing going...they are a hub assembly. lift wheels off the ground and grab tire top and bottom and try to move, should be no play....hope this helps

QUESTION: I checked the wheels for play in the wheel bearings and found none.  I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with the steering column or front transfer case.  What are your thoughts.

Answer
Hi Doug....look closly at the brake assembly...if you have a bad wheel bearing the wheel will lean out against the brake assembly when you turn....try removing the calipers and caliper housings and see if you have play then...check CV shafts as well for wear....maybe bad ball joints. just odd that would be only when you turn right. that kind of noise is consistant with bad bearing... try lifting truck off the ground and running in 4x4 and see if you can locate noise that way.... hope this helps
