Question
I have a 1985 Chevrolet K-10 4WD, there is oil leaking from a plate that is bolted to the bottom half of the transmission behind the oil pan. Could you please tell me what is called so i can replace the seal?

Answer
Hi Bob... if you have oil comming out from that transmission cover you have a rear main seal or front trans seal leak... if is in fact oil not trans fluid, you will need to remove the engine or trans. engine probably easier... remove pan drop the rear main and replace the seal. if you are not well skilled at doing this sort of thing i would recommend that you take it to a qualified tech... if not done properly you can damage engine...hope this helps
