Question
Been through many tests and paid shops to find out why I get a puff of fuel smoke on the odd cold start, no answers.Leakdown ruled out.
Can a small battery with too low cca cause a little flooding during a cold start? What cca should I have in a 5.7 engine? Existing is 650 cca.

Answer
Hi Cory... 650 cca is pleanty of power to start that truck...is it blue smoke at start up or black... if it's blue, probably valve seals are leaking past after shut down pooling oil on top of cyls. if black and you say no inj leakdown check for air leaks around throttle body or intake, don't forget vacum lines...hope this helps
