Chevrolet Repair - fuel filter

Expert: Gary Malone - 10/16/2009

Question
QUESTION: I have an 85 gmc vandura 2500..
I've had to replace the fuel filter twice in 2 months...it started chucking going up steep hills...
Is this the only thing it might be?
would it be better to install an in-line filter?? if so how is that done??

ANSWER: you say you replaced the fuel filter twice when you change it does it fix the problem?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: yes it does... for  about 800-1000 miles

Answer
an in-line fuel filter will take a little longer to stop up and can be put anywhere in the fuel line(making sure to keep it clear of exhaust and other heat sources and clear of moving parts)but the only real fix is going to be to remove the fuel tank and clean out whatever is in there stopping up the fuel filters
