Chevrolet Repair - 1994 z71 transfer case

Expert: Gary Malone - 11/6/2009

Question
I have a 1994 chevy z71 4x4. It started making this rattleing sound or grinding sound. I checked my transfer case and it was low. after filling it the sound remains. What should I check next? could the front axle be low as well?

Answer
there are vents on the front and rear axle and the transfer case get you about 15 feet of 1/4 inch hose and place it on the vent of each one (one at a time)run it through the driver window drive it and listen to the hose this will pinpoint where the noise is coming from
