Chevrolet Repair/6.2 diesel timing

Question
I am confused on injection timing. I am rebuilding a 6.2 diesel. I set TDC best I could, I have no gauge. I lined up the crank mark at 12 o'clock and the cam shaft mark at 6 o'clock. Put the injection gear on top of the cam gear the mark will only point at 6 o'clock. now how do I line up the injection gear? I hear top 6 bottom 12, but at TDC the bottom is pointing at 6 o'clock not 12. I am confused. Do I need to spin motor to a diff position or what. I must get done asap, Please help. It is my plow truck and snow is on it's way. Haines manual does not tell me crap.

Answer
Ok, easy way for me to tell you, the crank turns 2 revolutions to each 1 revolution that the cam turns. You may be on bottom dead center. Is there a port that you can put a screwdriver in to watch as you turn the crank to know when the piston is up on top. If so, turn the crank with the screwdriver in the hole and when the piston comes up, check your marks. If it is not where it needs to be, turn it around one more time till the screwdriver comes up again and then it should be at TDC.
