QUESTION: I have a 1995 Chevy Blazer S10, V6 Vortec, I went to pick up my grandson today and it started hesitating to the point that I had to put one foot on gas and one on break to keep it running at a red light. The brakes also seemed to not work very good and the oil pressure went down. I checked the oil and it was fine, no film on it (antifreeze). Does this sound like it could be a possible bad plug or possibly the mass air flow sensor.

ANSWER: HI POLLY, WOW, YOU KNOW ABOUT A MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR ??? THIS IS GOOD.. ALL KIDDING ASIDE, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A EGR VALVE STUCK OPEN. THIS WILL CAUSE IT TO RUN POORLY AND NOT IDLE AT ALL. I WOULD SUGGEST TAKING THE EGR VALVE OFF AND FLIP IT UPSIDE DOWN AND CK TO SEE IF THERE IS A PIECE OF SMALL CARBON HOLDING THE VALVE OPEN. IF SO REMOVE THE CARBON AND MAKE SURE THE VALVE CLOSES. THEY SELL A SCREEN TO INSTALL OVER THE EGR VALVE OPENING TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN..WHILE THIS VALVE IS OFF MAKE SURE THE PINTLE VALVE MOVES UP AND DOWN SMOOTH, IF NOT, MAYBE TIME FOR A  NEW EGR VALVE. IF THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM REMOVE THE CONNECTION AT THE MASS AIR FLOW OR MAP SENSOR AND SEE IF THE CONDITION IMPROVES,THIS WILL NOT BE PERFECT BUT IF IT IMPROVES THAT SENSOR IS BAD....GET BACK TO ME IF THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM...GOOD LUCK,,,TOM

QUESTION: Changed the egr valve, vechile is not equipped with a mass air flow sensor. Still sluggish during acceleration.,fine.when idling.  Any more.suggestions?

ANSWER: HI POLLY,SO NOW THIS IDLES OK..BUT HAS NO POWER..PULL OUT THE OXYGEN SENSOR BEFORE  THE CONVERTOR AND TELL ME HOW IT RUNS LIKE THIS.IF IT RUNS GOOD WITH POWER SOUNDS LIKE PLUGGED CONVERTOR.THIS IS COMMON..IF NO CHANGE GET BACK TO ME...TOM

QUESTION: Well, I didn't get the chance to check the o2 sensor, my step daughters boyfriend decided he was going to work on it. Changed the fuel filter, which was plugged, and it ran without hesitation, but when going up hills on the interstate can not go more than 40 or 50 mph, then it started back firing. He changed the spider, with a new plenum gasket and he tried to start it, it would not start, he said he heard something while trying to get it to start. When he took the plenum cover off the throttle body was filled with a mixture of oil and gas.....God I hope the engine isn't screwed...please help

HI POLLY,I DID NOT WANT YOU TO CK THE O2 SENSOR,, I WANTED YOU TO REMOVE THE O2 SENSORS BEFORE THE CONVERTORS AND DRIVE IT LIKE THIS TO SEE IF THE ENGINE HAD MORE POWER..WHY DID YOU REPLACE THE INJECTION SYSTEM ???? A DIRTY FUEL FILTER WILL CAUSE A NO POWER PROBLEM. BUT STOP THERE.. HOW DID HE KNOW THE FUEL FILTER WAS PLUGGED ???? DID HE CK FUEL PRESSURE OR FUEL VOLUME ?? THE REASON WHY THE INTAKE WAS FILLED WITH GAS IS BECAUSE HE DID NOT HOOK UP ALL THE INJECTORS CORRECTLY AND NOW THERE IS A LEAK OF FUEL..TELL HIM TO RETRACE HIS STEPS AND MAKE SURE ALL THE INJECTORS ARE PLUGGED IN ALL THE WAY..BEFORE HE PUTS IT BACK TOGETHER HAVE HIM TURN THE KEY ON TO CYCLE THE FUEL PUMP AND SEE IF IT IS LEAKING,IF SO ,REPAIR THIS LEAK..I ALSO DID NOT WANT YOU TO REPLACE THE EGR VALVE,,I WANTED YOU TO CK THE EGR VALVE TO SEE IF THE VALVE WAS STUCK CLOSED OR THERE WAS A PIECE OF CARBON STUCK IN THE PINTLE. THIS WILL NOT CAUSE A LACK OF POWER PROBLEM BUT IT WILL CAUSE A IDLE PROBLEM, AS YOU SAID IT HAD.... I WILL HELP YOU, BUT YOU HAVE TO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE YOU DO IT..YOU ARE SPENDING ALOT OF MONEY ON UNNECESSARY PARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE..HERE IS THE PROBLEM IN A NUT SHELL,,NO POWER ==== TIMING ISSUES WHICH I DO NOT THINK IT IS BECAUSE IT IDLES GOOD..RESTRICTION IN EXHAUST SYSTEM,SUCH AS PLUGGED CONVERTORS,[WHICH CAN CAUSE A BACK FIRE PROBLEM]WHICH WILL ALSO CAUSE A LOW VACUUM PROBLEM,, WHICH WILL GIVE YOU A HARD BRAKE PEDAL.. FUEL PRESSURE BEING VERY LOW[FAULTY FUEL PUMP,[PLUGGED FILTER,WHICH WE CAN NOW RULE THIS OUT..]SO PLEASE TAKE THE O2 SENSORS OUT BEFORE THE CATS AND DRIVE IT LIKE THIS,IF BETTER WE KNOW THGE CATS ARE PARTIALY PLUGGED.
