Question
QUESTION: Hi my check engine light came up on my 1992 Cadillac Deville. I got codes F48 which I believe is the A/C. I disconnected the sensor off the accumulator and forgot to connect it back and then I got code E90. What is E90 and how do I test and or replace it. I have had intermittent starting problems and now this check engine light is now on. When I say intermittent I mean it is off and on. When I try to start it their is no crank only dash lights come on that is it. An hour and a half later it starts. I try putting it in neutral to start it that does nothing I try it in park same thing nothing just dash lights. Thanks.

ANSWER: HI SEAN,,LETS START WITH THE LAST QUESTION..WHEN THIS WILL NOT CRANK OVER GET YOURSELF A TEST LIGHT AND CK FOR POWER ON THE SMALL PURPLE WIRE GOING TO THE STARTER SOLENOID..IF THERE IS POWER ON THE PURPLE [SMALL WIRE] AND LARGE CABLE AS WELL THEN THIS IS A BAD STARTER...IF NO POWER TO THIS POINT AND YOU ARE SURE THE BATTERY AND CABLES ARE ALL CLEAN AND TIGHT THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO CK FOR POWER COMING TO THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND OUT IF IT...THIS MAY HAVE A BAD IGNITION SWITCH...WHEN THIS WILL NOT CRANK YOU COULD TRY TO JUMP THE SMALL STARTER WIRE WITH THE BIG CABLE ..IF IT WILL NOT CRANK LIKE THIS WE KNOW THE STARTER IS BAD,AS LONG AS YOU HAVE 12 VOLTS TO THE LARGE CABLE ON THE STARTER..SO DO SOME DIAGNOSTIC WORK ON THIS AND GET BACK TO ME..

QUESTION: Hey thanks. The brake lights work. For even more details I forgot to put that sometimes you can't shift from park into any gear. You have to pump the brakes and then it finally lets you shift after awhile. I will check for a vacuum tomorrow it was just to dark tonight. Also I tried making a u turn to back it in my driveway and all of a sudden it died in drive it would not start in park. I shifted it to park put my foot on the brake tried to start it nothing. I shifted it to neutral tried to start it nothing. I left it in neutral put my foot on the brake and it started back up I have not moved it since I got it parked where I wanted it. Any ideas. Thanks again.

Answer
HI SEAN,,YOU SAY SOMETIMES YOU CAN NOT REMOVE THIS FROM PARK..I AM NOT THAT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR CAR.[NOT A CHEVY]BAD EXCUSE I KNOW !!! BUT DOES THIS HAVE A SHIFT INNER-LOCK SOLENOID THAT PREVENTS THIS FROM GOING INTO GEAR WITHOUT YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL OR IGN ON..IF IT DOES IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS SOLENOID IS FAULTY OR NOT GETTING A SIGNAL TO RELEASE ITSELF..WHICH MAY COME FROM THAT BRAKE/CRUISE SWITCH..IF YOU LOOK DOWN AT THE BASE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHERE THIS SWITCH IS I BET YOU WILL FIND NOT JUST 2 WIRES FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS, BUT MORE LIKE 4 OR 6..THIS COULD BE WHAT THAT CODE WAS FOR...CK THIS OUT..AS FAR AS THE NO STARTING GOES HAVE YOU TRIED TO WIGGLE THE IGNITION SWITCH AROUND WHILE YOU YOU TRYING TO START THIS..I REMEMBER THIS YEAR OR A LITTLE EARLIER THEY HAD BAD SWITCHES..IT WOULD TURN THE IGN OFF AND SOMETIMES WOULD NOT EVEN CRANK..YOU WILL NEED TO CK FOR POWER COMING OUT OF THE IGN SWITCH WHEN THIS ACTS UP AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY. IF NOT THE SWITCH IS BAD..YOU COULD JUST UNPLUG THE SWITCH FROM THE COLUMN AND JUMP IT..SHOULD HAVE SEVERAL BIG RED WIRES AND A PURPLE WHICH WILL GO TO THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND THEN THE STARTER SOLENOID..JUMP ONE OF THE HOT RED WIRES TO THIS PURPLE WIRE.I THINK THERE IS A PURPLE WIRE HERE ??? IF IT CRANKS LIKE THIS I WOULD SAY THE IGN SWITCH IS FAULTY....LET ME KNOW HOW THIS WORKS OUT FOR YOU AND GOOD LUCK TO YOU,,,TOM...
