Question
my son is restoring this truck, the bed was trashed so he bought a 84 box with no gas tanks we bought new tanks, necks and a silenoid, the silenoid (?spelling)did not come with any hose to tank diagram color coded nipples but no diagram.any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hello Bill,
Go to the public library, to the refference section. They have all kinds of shop and service manuals.
I don't have one here for trucks that age, but find a Motors, or Chilton manual, and look in the general repair section. I remember seeing a section in one of those books for testing fuel tank switching valves, and it seems like it showed where each hose went.

The word is solenoid, but I don't think that one is called a solenoid valve, but rather a switching valve.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
