Chevrolet Repair/98 Blazer 4x4 engagement

Thanks for your help.
I have a 1998 S-10 4 door 4x4, or rather it used to be a 4x4...  I have 130K on it and the encoder motor was changed at around 75k.

When pressing the 4 hi or 4 low button the lights for the 4 hi and 4 lo flash at the same time and nothing happens.  Last time I played with it I got the transfer case into 4lo but I do not think the wheels were engaged.

Last year I remember it having trouble disengaging the right side.  Not sure if this is related.

Any help what test to run or part to change.

Thanks
Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,
Check the following links. They have a troubleshooting guide, and a description of how the system operates....except I disagree with them that the left side always drives, because there is a differential inside, so neither side drives unless the actuator engages.

I have not tried one of these...I stay stock. But it could be helpful reading.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
