Question
My intake manifold gasket is faulty causing a significant leak, Is there anything I can do for a temporary repair until I can come up with the money to have it properly replaced? I am a sigle parent and I don't have the funds to take it and have it fixed right now! Thankyou in advance for any assistance you can offer!

Answer
Hello Mollie,
If the leak is just air, like vacuum leak, it is remotely possible that you could temporarily gob some RTV silicone where it leaks and help some.
If that is the case, be SURE to use Oxygen sensor safe RTV. Regular silicone sealant will ruin the oxygen sensors....just the vapors of it being sucked in and burned.

Now, if your manifold is leaking coolant, I think removing and resealing would be the only safe way, to avoid overheating due to low coolant.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
