Question
My 1994 Astro 4.3 Z model(not vortec) is displaying multiple symptoms. AC working intermittently, same with wipers. Radio returning to AM station when van is turned off, also resets clock to 12:00. Speedometer is fully maxed out intermittently. Gauges go haywire sometimes. Headlamps go dim at times. Car seems to have a lot less power at times also. What's up with all this? Help!
PS... I changed out the pcm last summer and the resulting fuel mileage has been horrendous since then. Could this be reated?
Thanks.........Bart  8/15/05

Answer
Hi Bart,
I wonder if you need the PCM recalibrated.
Now for the intermittents...They may or may not be related, but what you describe sounds like a bad ground.
Make sure there is a good ground from the engine to the firewall. Also from the engine to the frame.
Clean the battery terminals real well. And check for loose connections at the starter, and all the connectors.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
