Chevrolet Repair/Coolant leak and brakes = $3,000?

Question
Mark, we have a 1999 Chevy Venture with about 72K miles on it. We know there's a coolant leak somewhere and the car shakes when we brake (I'm guessing the rotors?). My wife took it to a Firestone service center for a complete diagnostic test and they provided the following list. What is actually needed to fix our coolant leak and braking issue and keep the car running for the next 40K miles vs. restore the car back to its original state?:
- Heating/Cooling System (Water Pump, Thermostat, Cooling system flush, belts) = $480.10
- Engine System (Fuel Filter, Fuel Injection which includes replacing lower intake manifold, Tune Up) =  $795.85
- Steering/Suspension (Trasmission flush/filter, Tie Rod Ends, Alignment) = $500.17
- Brake System (Wheel Cylinder, Bearing & Seals) = $887.88

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Asher, 3000 dollars? Firestone guys doing the repair!! Holy Crap!! I'm sure the INTAKE MANIFOLD is leaking and the WATERPUMP. Sure for what it takes to do the thermostat while the intake is on the bench (5 minutes) I would do that too. As for the cost...950 to 1000 dollars.
To do the spark plugs while it apart is also a good idea...cost 75 dollars.
Transmission filter change $125...Tie rod ends...$160 and alignment..$80.
As for the brakes, I would do new front rotors and pads. Cost here with the cheaper rotors $300. The wheel cylinders on these vans do seap a little at times, I don't know how bad yours are could maybe just use a clean and adjust to the rear brakes. Wheel Bearing???

I would maybe call your dealer or look at another shop and have them look it over. I don't trust anybody in this business anymore, Too many know it all's.

Hope this helps

Mark
