Question
I'm having problems with my '99 Chevy Malibu.  The taillights/parking lights and dashboard lights are not working either in the auto or manual mode. Headlights are working fine. The service engine soon light came on and I believe this is related to the my problem.  Checked all related bulbs and fuses.  Any ideas on the problem? Could it be the headlamp switch?  Thanks

Answer
Hello Kevin,
It could be the switch, but it could also be a connector, or a fusible link.
The headlights are on a separate fusible link I believe.
If the front parking lights also don't work, it probably is not a connector near the rear of the vehicle, but could be where the wires pass through the firewall.
But I would suspect fuse first.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
