Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Chevrolet Repair - Neutral safety switch location

Expert: Van - 11/2/2005

Question
I'm sure my no start issue on my son's
93 chevy C1500
4.3L V6
200K miles

Is a bad neutral safety switch. When the no start occured I could move the shift and get it to start in neutral. Now that doesn't work. I'm going to try to replace the switch.
I;m looking for the location of the switch and if this is difficult.

Answer
Hello Danny,
If it is an auto trans with column shift, that switch is on the steering column, above the brake pedal, close to the floorboard.
Might need to lower the upper end of the steering column where it bolts under the dash to get to it.
