Tom,

I have a 1979 camaro Z28 with a 350 engine. I found early on that I had overheating problems also. In researching, i found that GM specs out a 195 degree thermostate. I replaced it with a 160 degree. It opens quicker and the engine didn't get too hot before allowing the cooling system to operate. I had no more problems.
