Question
I just lost my serpentine belt for my 87 chevy s-10 pickup (4 cylinde; manuel shift)and i need to know how to install a new one.

Answer
Hi Chris,
First of all, there should be a map somewhere under the hood showing the routing of the belt.
But in case there isn't, look at the pulleys. Some are smooth, and some are grooved. The smooth side of the belt goes against the smooth pulleys, and grooved to grooved.
Use a 3/8 inch breakover handle in the square hole of the tensioner to pull it against the spring tension to put the belt on the last pulley.
Not as hard as you might at first think.

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
