Question
Having trouble starting. truck turns over but doesn't seem like getting gas. 5.3.liter  vortex engine. Need to troubleshoot fuel system. needs suggestions as where to start. are there any known problems with fuel system. 1997 gmc 1500 silverado

Answer
Hello Barnel,
I would start by first listening to see if the fuel pump is running in the tank, and then follow that up with a fuel pressure test.
Possibilities are a blown fuse, a plugged filter, a bad connection, a bad fuel pump, and a bad crank sensor.
Are you sure there is spark?

I have been maintaining a fleet of approximately 55 light, medium and heavy vehicles for over 20 years. Most are 4X4 pickups and off road fire fighting trucks. Some medium duty trucks. Some military light trucks. I can answer most questions concerning 4X4 engine, drive line, suspension, electrical, and fuel, both diesel and gasoline. Ford, GM, and Dodge, old and new, but prefferably not newer than 99.
